It is now one year since the release of WordPress version 5. This was a truly revolutionary update, and it mainly concerned the content editor. Those of you who have been working with WP for at least a year surely remember how the previous editor effectively limited the content arrangement of subpages and articles. Despite the fact that at the beginning many people could not convince themselves to Gutenberg, today many of them cannot imagine working without this tool.

Gutenberg Like the whole WordPress environment, it is constantly evolving, and external developers create more and more add-ons that enrich it with new possibilities. That's right. It is worth to be aware that one of the great advantages of the new editor is the fact that we are not limited to the default blocks found in it from the very beginning. Without any problems and additional costs we can extend its capabilities with just a few mouse clicks.

This allows us to make the Gutenberg block editor more like a page building tool, where we can easily and quickly create attractive content arrangements.

Here are 5 in my opinion the most interesting additions to Gutenberg at the moment.

Kadence Blocks

This is one of the most popular plugins for the block editor.

Kadence Blocks yes, it does add a few new blocks for content, but perhaps the most unique functionality here is the layout options, the so-called 'layout options'. Row Layout. With this block you can create your own customisable column layouts consisting of any other blocks. After inserting, we can choose a predefined structure and also manually adjust the width of each column by drag and drop.

In addition, the plug-in enriches the editor with several other blocks, such as advanced buttons, advanced headers, icons, tabs and several others.

Ultimate Addons for Gutenbergis a plug-in developed by the same team responsible for the development of the Astra theme or the Ultimate Addons for Elementorwhich I have already written about in the past.

The plugin offers advanced blocks for columns, helps you manage backgrounds, spacing and other parameters at the group level. When it comes to additional content blocks, there are plenty of new options here. Here's a list of just some of them:

  • Advanced Headings
  • Calls to action (CTA)
  • Timeline
  • Price lists
  • Opinions
  • Other

Another very interesting extension for Gutenerg, available both as a free version and a commercial one with greater possibilities. Dynamically developed, it has already gained quite a large group of supporters.

At the moment it offers 23 blocks for Gutenberg and over 50 predefined content layouts. These include:

  • Counter
  • Video Popup
  • Price list
  • Call to action (CTA)
  • Boxing with image
  • Opinions
  • and others
The paid version additionally allows you to use premium layouts for existing blocks or use your own CSS customisation.
Atomic Block

Another interesting plug-in with a strong backing in the form of support WPEngine one of the largest dedicated WordPress hosting providers in the world. Atomic Blocks is therefore backed by a major player in the WordPress space, which certainly bodes well for the future of this plugin.

You won't find any super fancy blocks here. Instead, we get simple, useful and aesthetically pleasing blocks, which are useful in various situations. Currently, the plug-in offers 13 blocks, including

  •  Containers
  • Calls to action (CTA)
  • Buttons
  • Opinions
  • Price lists
  • Entry grid
  • and others...

The friendly Otter firstly adds over 12 new content blocks that we can use in our projects. Secondly, it also gives us ready-made templates (arrangements made of blocks).

As with other solutions, you will find blocks such as reviews, price lists, etc...

All of the above plugins help to improve the Gutenberg block content editor for WordPress. If you don't use other tools, such as ElementorYou will certainly enjoy the benefits of this fashion project.

Over the past year a lot has changed and although at the beginning Gutenberg evoked rather mixed feelings, today we can say that this tool is maturing, becoming more and more useful in everyday work with the website.
