I will show you step by step the whole process of quick installation of WordPress using the auto installer Softaculouswhich you have active on the previously created hosting account.
First of all, log into cPanel. You received the login data in the mail after activating the service, so browse through your mail or check your message history in the Customer Panel (the mail should be there too). After logging in, scroll down to the bottom of the page:
Here you will find two options to build your site. The Wizard (sample themes visible) and WordPress, which we'll focus on now. Depending on your hosting plan you will have more or less scripts available to install, but WordPress is always there. Click on the WordPress icon in your dashboard (marked with a red box in the image above). When you do this an information page will appear as below:
Click on the "Install" to proceed to the next stage.
A form will appear which needs to be filled in with data concerning e.g. where WordPress should be installed, setting up a password etc... Below I present each section of the form in turn so that you know exactly what they are for and what data needs to be filled in.
Select protocol - If you have ordered RED or PURPLE account, SSL certificate is included in standard. In case of smaller plans you may, but do not have to buy such a certificate depending on the type and purpose of your website. If you already have an SSL certificate for your domain, in this field, choose the option https:// or https://www. If you do not have the certificate, select http:// or http://www. Why with or without a website? You decide. If you choose www then WordPress will be configured so that the website address will be e.g. www.moja-strona.pl without www it will just be my-page.co.uk. I usually choose from www.
Select a domain - If you have multiple domains or subdomains on your account, select the one you want to install WordPress on from the list.
In the catalogue - If you want WordPress to run directly on your main domain e.g. www.moja-strona.pl clear this field (default value is 'wp'), but if you want the installation to be done in a subdirectory then leave the default setting or enter the name of the directory the installer should create. Then the page address will look like this: www.moja-strona.pl/nazwa-katalogu/
Name of the Guestbook - This is a wrong translation of Softaculous producer, probably he will correct it in some time, but at the moment of writing it is as it is. Actually, we should see here the header Website name and treat it as such. In this field enter the name of the page e.g. "Breeding of German Shepherds".
Podcast description - Here, too, the translation leaves a little to be desired. Treat this field as Slogan (optional).
Enable Multisite (WPMU) - If you check this option, WordPress will be configured to run multiple independent sites on a single installation of WordPress, e.g. running in subdomains or subdirectories. Do not check this option if you are not sure if you will need it.
User name - here you enter the name of the user who is the main administrator of the site. By default, this field has the value 'admin', but I strongly recommend changing it to something else, like your first name, or preferably your first name supplemented with a number.
Administrator password - give a complicated password for the site administrator. You can generate it easily by clicking on the key icon to the right of the field. The complex password is extremely important, do not underestimate it to avoid problems.
Administrator's email - enter the email address to which WordPress will send various notifications by default.
Limit Login Attempts (Loginizer) - Optionally, you can install a plug-in that will block access to the site if someone makes a certain number of unsuccessful logins. Of course only the user who logs in incorrectly is blocked. The Didwear server itself also controls this, so decide for yourself if you want additional protection.
Expand advanced options
Database name - In this field you can change the proposed name of the database, but I suggest leaving it as proposed by the installer.
Table prefix - the database will consist of multiple tables responsible for storing certain page data. In this field you can specify the prefix that will appear in the table names. Leave this field with the default value suggested by the installer.
Turn off update notifications - this field should be decorated unless you really don't want the installer to email you updates.
Automatic update - By checking this option, the installer will automatically perform the update when a new version of WordPress is released. I suggest checking this box if you know or suspect that you won't want to go into the site panel and do the updates yourself. When it comes to WordPress, taking care of updates and doing them regularly is extremely important.
Automatic update WordPress Plugins - if you check this option, the moment the installer detects that a WordPress update is available (option above) it will update the plugins at the same time.
Automatic update WordPress Plugins - as above. Checking this option will also update the theme you are using as soon as a newer version is available.
Backup Location - Location for backup files. You can leave the default settings.
Automatic backups - If you want Softaculous to automatically make backups in this list, select their frequency. Given that you have access to the last three backups on your hosting account, it doesn't make much sense to set a frequency of less than a month or possibly a week here.
Backup rotation - i.e. how many copies of your website you want to store. I suggest you choose 1. Note: These copies will use the available space of your account so there is no point in storing multiple copies.
If you want, you can choose one of the suggested themes, but personally I suggest you don't choose any. I will write more about themes in the next steps.
Click on the button Install to start the installation process. Optionally, you can also enter an email address to which an email will be sent with a summary of the completed installation. Once you click the button, WordPress will be installed in a minute or so.
If all goes well, you should see a message about the correct installation and two links. The first will take you to the default page.
The second link will open the site admin panel (remember it).
Watch it all on film
Now just give the configuration a quick tweak. Go to general settings.
Set the configuration as in the image below. It is about the correct time zone, date and time format. Finally, save the changes.
And one more place: Settings > Direct links.
I suggest you tick the entry name option here. Save and you're done 🙂 .
You have to see it - installing and launching a shop in 2 minutes!
Congratulations, now you can start working on creating your website! But to better visualise the whole process described above, why not see it on video. As a flavour you will see by the way how to install additional plugins, and in this case in 2 minutes we will set up WordPress and an online shop 🙂 .
It looks a lot simpler on film, doesn't it? I knew you could do it. Let us see what happens next, then.
